In 2021, BLIXT ARTS LAB was invited to create and lead a workshop for early childhood professionals who serve Central Nebraska. The results of that workshop surpassed what we could have imagined. By creating a safe space for providers to express themselves, we began to learn more about the frustrations, hopes, and dreams of teachers, families, children, and communities regarding the care of our very young. We also quickly realized that access to quality early childcare is essential to the future of Nebraska.
At BLIXT, we understand the unique power live theater offers as a catalyst for positive change. Our community artists started asset mapping and interviewing early childcare providers throughout the state about their experiences. Transcripts of these interviews were then given to playwright (and toddler mom) Summer Lukasiewicz, who we commissioned to write a play based on these interviews: FOSTER.
Summer has written an incredible play that BLIXT ARTS LAB has now received initial funding for. We are developing FOSTER for the stage, as it takes on the diverse perspectives of many, including a dedicated educator, a child navigating challenges, state legislators, concerned community members, and more. The goal? To make space for powerful, local and statewide conversations and action!
We are currently welcoming interested organizations and individuals into the conversation about how we can work together to make sure FOSTER has maximum impact. We warmly invite you to join us.
